William Thornton, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Thornton is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and University Fellowship trained in the subspecialty of Ophthalmic/Facial Plastic/Orbital Reconstructive Surgery. A native of Texas and graduate of the University of Texas, Austin in 1967,and the Medical Branch of Galveston, class of 1971, Dr. Thornton began his career as a USAF Flight Surgeon serving with distinction during the Vietnam War. He was nominated Flight Surgeon of the year in 1973 by his hospital command, credited with 12 patient survivals by aero vac under extreme conditions.

Dr. Thornton has combined his private surgical practice with a dedicated academic practice since 1981, serving as clinical professor at the University of Colorado and the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio. He is recognized by his peers of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for his expertise in the management of orbital fractures with facial trauma, and the restoration of complications of eyelid surgery and congenital conditions of children.
