Maria Teresa Whitney, M.D.
Dr. Whitney was born in Texas and has lived in the Lone Star State her entire life. She grew up in McAllen, later moving to Houston to attend Rice University for her undergraduate degree in Biology and then Baylor College of Medicine for her medical degree.
After medical school, Dr. Whitney moved to the great city of San Antonio for a one-year Internal Medicine internship followed by Ophthalmology residency, both at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. During her residency, she conducted research in diabetic retinopathy and optics, presenting at both the Alamo City Ophthalmology conference and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Following residency training, Dr. Whitney completed the ophthalmology board certification process, becoming a full member of the American Board of Ophthalmology. She worked several years as a faculty member with the University of Texas Health Science Center, teaching ophthalmology residents and medical students. In the fall of 2013, Dr. Whitney joined San Antonio Eye Center.
In addition to her ophthalmology practice, Dr. Whitney is a fluent Spanish speaker and an avid musician and artist. Dr. Whitney is also a devoted Spurs fan, splitting her time between cheering Tim Duncan’s leadership and lamenting Manu Ginobili’s baffling inconsistency.
